Commonly Prescribed For: Fioricet commonly prescribed for the treatment of headaches caused by tension.
How to Take It: Fioricet should be taken as directed by your doctor. Taking more than prescribed for you could result in damage to the liver. Fioricet should be taken in 1000mg doses 4 times per day maximum if required. The tablets can cause an upset stomach and if this occurs they should be taken with food or milk to prevent it. Fioricet should be stored at room temperature and away from light or heat.
How It Works: Fioricet is a mixture of butalbitol, caffeine and acetaminophen which is a pain killer and reduces high temperatures. Butalbitol reduces contractions of the muscles in the brain which causes tension headaches while caffeine helps to reduce blood vessel contractions in the brain helping to relieve stress.
Some Side Effects: Side Effects of Fioricet can include nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, vomiting or drowsiness. Serious side effects can include allergic reactions such as tight chest; trouble breathing; swelling of face mouth or tongue; rash; itching or hives. Other severe side effects can include palpitations; shortness of breath; mood swings; tinnitus; confusion or swollen or peeling skin.
