Commonly Prescribed For: Fexofenadine is prescribed to treat seasonal allergies. These can include watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat, skin itching or hives.
How to Take It: Fexofenadine can be taken with or without food and comes in tablet form. It should be swallowed whole with water. There are some kinds of fruit juice which can adversely affect the effectiveness of Fexofenadine such as orange, apple or grapefruit juices. A missed dose should be taken as soon as you remember but not if it is too near to your next dose. Never take more than one dose at a time.
How It Works: Fexofenadine works by blocking histamine which is a substance the body produces as a result of an allergic reaction. Fexofenadine is known as an antihistamine as its job is to block histamine.
Some Side Effects: Side Effects of Fexofenadine can include headaches, abdominal cramps or dizziness although most people have little or no side effects from taking this medication. More severe side effects could include symptoms of an allergic reaction such as trouble breathing; rash; itching; hives; or swelling of the face, mouth or throat. Other serious side effects can include fever, vomiting, earache or constant coughing. You should contact your doctor if you experience any of the above serious side effects.
