Commonly Prescribed For: Compazine is generally prescribed for controlling severe nausea and vomiting. This medication can also be used for symptoms associated with schizophrenia (a mental disease, which causes unusual thinking or inappropriate emotions). It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Compazine is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken 3 to 4 times every day by adults and once or thrice every day by children. Take Compazine as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Compazine belongs to a group of drugs known as conventional antipsychotics. It works to reduce unusual excitement in the brain.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, decreased sexual ability, dizziness, missed menstrual period, blurred vision, breast milk production, dry mouth, breast enlargement, stuffed nose, shuffling walk, headache, drooling, nausea, blank facial expression, constipation, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty urinating, jitteriness and increased appetite. Serious side effects include fever, coma, muscle stiffness, vision loss, irregular heartbeat, itching, flu-like symptoms, hives, neck cramps, rash, difficulty breathing or swallowing and seizures.
