Commonly Prescribed For: Co-trimoxazole is an antibacterial combination drug, is prescribed for the treatment of certain urinary tract infections, severe middle ear infections in children, long-lasting or frequently recurring bronchitis in adults that has increased in seriousness, inflammation of the intestine due to a severe bacterial infection, and travelers’ diarrhea in adults.

How to Take it: Co-trimoxazole is available in the form of a tablet, and as a liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken twice every day. Co-trimoxazole is taken four times every day to treat severe lung infections. Take this medication as prescribed.

How it Works: Co-trimoxazole belongs to a group of drugs known as sulfa drug. This medication works to eliminate the bacteria, which causes several infections like urinary tract infections, lung infections, and intestinal infections.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, loss of appetite. Some serious side effects include skin rash, joint aches, itching, paleness, sore throat, yellowing of the skin, fever or chills, and unusual bleeding or bruising.
