Commonly Prescribed For: Cleocin is generally prescribed for treating certain kinds of bacterial infections, such as infections of internal organs, lungs, female reproductive organs and skin infections.

How to Take it: Cleocin is available in the form of a capsule, and as a liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken 3 to 4 times every day.

How it Works: Cleocin belongs to a group of drugs known as lincomycin antibiotics. It works to impede or thwart the growth of bacteria. To treat throat irritation, take the capsules along with water. Take Cleocin as prescribed, around the same time daily.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, burning and swelling of the vagina, vomiting, white vaginal discharge, joint pain, pain when swallowing and white patches in mouth. Some serious side effects include blisters, decreased urination, rash, yellowing of the skin, breathing difficulty and hives.
