Commonly Prescribed For: Claritin is generally prescribed for relieving symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. This medication can also be used for treating itching caused due to hives.
How to Take it: Claritin is available in the form of a syrup, a disintegrating tablet, and a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once every day, either with food or without food.
How it Works: Claritin belongs to a group of drugs known as antihistamines. It works to block the action of histamine (natural substance present in the body, which causes allergic symptoms).
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, red or itchy skin, dry mouth, diarrhea, nose bleed, sore throat, stomach pain, mouth sores, weakness, and difficulty falling asleep. Some serious side effects include rash, wheezing, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, itching, hoarseness, and inflammation of the face, throat, feet, or lower legs.
