Clarithromycin

Commonly Prescribed For: Clarithromycin is a renowned drug that is used in treating infections due to the effects of certain bacteria. Some of the infections include pneumonia, bronchitis, and several infections associated with ears, skin and throat. It is used in preventing a type of infection called Mycobacterium avium complex. Quite often it is combined with other medications in order to prevent the growth of a bacteria called H. pylori.

How to Take it: Clarithromycin is available in tablets, extended release tablets and liquid. The extended release tablet is to be taken orally with food or without food for every twelve hours for an extension of 2 weeks. Shake Clarithromycin liquid well prior to drinking it. Adhere strictly to the prescriptions of your physician. It is recommended not to chew or crush the tablets.

How it Works: Clarithromycin belongs to a class of medications often called as macrolide antibiotics. It primary function is to stop the growth certain bacteria.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and unusual taste. Severe side effects may lead to skin rashes, blisters on the skin, irregular heartbeat, problems while breathing, unusual bleeding, flu-like symptoms, swelling of face, eyes, throat and lower legs, fever and lack of energy.
