Commonly Prescribed For: Citalopram Hydrobromide is generally prescribed for treating depression. This medication can also be used for treating eating disorder, panic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and social phobia (anxiety disorder). It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Citalopram Hydrobromide is available in the form of a tablet, and as a solution to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, either with food or without food. Take Citalopram as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Citalopram Hydrobromide belongs to a group of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. This medication works to increase the quantity of serotonin (a substance present in the brain, which helps to maintain mental balance).

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, changes in sex drive, vomiting, excessive sweating, stomach pain, dry mouth, stomach pain, muscle or joint pain, drowsiness, muscle or joint pain, excessive tiredness, nervousness, and excitement. Some serious side effects include seeing things that do not exist, seizures, fever, severe muscle stiffness, sweating, and fast or irregular heartbeat.
