Commonly Prescribed For: Ciprofloxacin is generally prescribed for treating bacterial infection in the eye that includes conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers (loss of tissue in the frontal part of the eye). Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic ointment is usually used for treating conjunctivitis.

How to Take it: Ciprofloxacin is available in the form of a solution, and as ointment to be applied to the eyes. This medication is used often, once every fifteen minutes to once every four hours for a period of two weeks. Ciprofloxacin ointment is generally applied three times every day for a period of 2 days and two times every day for a period of 5 days. Take Ciprofloxacin as prescribed, even if you feel good.

How it Works: Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of medications known as fluoroquinolones. It works to kill the bacteria, which leads to infections.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include burning, itchy, or irritated eyes, unpleasant taste, eye pain and unusual feelings. Some serious side effects include rash, hoarseness, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, tingling, and inflammation of the face, tongue, hands, or lower legs.
