Commonly Prescribed For: Cipro is generally prescribed for treating bacterial infection in the eye, which includes conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers (loss of tissue in the frontal part of the eye). Cipro ophthalmic ointment is normally used for treating conjunctivitis.

How to Take it: Cipro is available in the form of a solution, and as ointment to be applied to the eyes. This medication is used often, once every fifteen minutes to once every four hours for a period of two weeks. Cipro ointment is generally applied three times every day for a period of 2 days and two times every day for a period of 5 days. Take Ciprofloxacin as prescribed, even if you feel good.

How it Works: Cipro belongs to a class of medications known as fluoroquinolones. It works to kill the bacteria, which leads to certain infections.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include burning, itchy, or irritated eyes, unpleasant taste, eye pain and unusual feelings. Some serious side effects include rash, hoarseness, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, tingling, and inflammation of the face, tongue, hands, or lower legs.
