Commonly Prescribed For: Chlorthalidone is a water pill, generally prescribed for treating high blood pressure. This medication can also be used for treating fluid maintenance due to various conditions, such as heart disease. It makes the kidneys to shed unneeded water from the body in the form of urine. Chlorthalidone is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Chlorthalidone is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once every day after taking a meal. Take Chlorthalidone in the dawn to avoid urination at nights. Take Chlorthalidone as prescribed.

How it Works: Chlorthalidone belongs to a group of drugs known as diuretics. It increases the quantity of salt and liquid the kidneys generally remove from the blood in the form of urine. This leads to a decrease in the blood pressure.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include muscle weakness, hair loss, dizziness, headache, cramps, and loss of appetite, thirst, diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting.
