Cephalexin
Other Names: Keflex Pulvules.
Commonly Prescribed For: Cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic, generally prescribed for treating certain infections due to bacteria, including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, skin infections and ear infections. Cephalexin is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Cephalexin is available in the form of a capsule, tablet, and as liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken for every six hours, four times every day or every twelve hours, two times every day for a period of 7-10 days. Swallow the tablets and capsules entirely along with water. Take Cephalexin as prescribed.
How it Works: Cephalexin belongs to a group of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotic. It interferes with the ability of the bacteria’s formation of cell walls. This will weaken the cells walls, thereby causing it to rupture, which results in the bacterial death.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, mild skin rash, and diarrhea. Some serious side effects include severe skin rash, vaginal infections, itching, painful mouth, hives, throat sores, difficulty breathing or swallowing, unusual bleeding or bruising, and wheezing.
