Celebrex
Other Names: Celecoxib.
Commonly Prescribed For: Celebrex is generally prescribed for relieving pain, swelling and stiffness due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, and ankylosing spondylitis. This medication can also be used for treating painful menstrual periods. Celebrex can also be combined with other treatments to reduce abnormal growth in the colon and rectum in patients having familial adenomatous polyps.
How to Take it: Celebrex is available in the form of a capsule to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once or two times every day. Take 200mg of Celebrex at a time, either with food or without food. Take Celebrex as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Celebrex belongs to a group of NSAIDs known as COX-2 inhibitors. This medication thwarts the ability of the body to produce certain substance that leads to pain and inflammation.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, cold symptoms, gas or bloating and sore throat. Some serious side effects include unexplained weight gain, frequent urination, upset stomach, difficult or painful urination, excessive tiredness, back pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, bloody urine, itching, fast heartbeat, lack of energy, pale skin, and loss of appetite, difficulty breathing or swallowing, yellowing of the skin, hoarseness, flu-like symptoms, hives, blisters and rash.
