Cefpodoxime

Other Names: Cefuroxime, Vantin.

Commonly Prescribed For: Cefpodoxime is generally prescribed for treating infections due to bacteria, including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, throat infections, bronchitis, skin infections and gonorrhea. Cefpodoxime is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Cefpodoxime is available in the form of a tablet, and as liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken for every 12 hours two times every day for a period of 7 to 14 days. Do not chew or crush the tablets, instead swallow the tablets entirely. Take Cefpodoxime as prescribed even if you feel good.

How it Works: Cefpodoxime belongs to a class of medications known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It fights against the growth of bacteria in the body.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, increased or decreased urination, stomach pain, decreased taste sensation, tired feeling, nervousness, bloating, headache, sleeping problems, vomiting, mild skin rash, and diarrhea. Some serious side effects include severe skin rash, vaginal infection, itching, throat sores, seizures, watery diarrhea, severe blistering, rapid weight gain, numbness or tingly feeling, fever, hives, painful mouth, difficulty breathing or swallowing, unusual bleeding or bruising and wheezing.
