Cefixime

Commonly Prescribed For: Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic, generally prescribed for treating infections due to bacteria like urinary tract infections, pneumonia, throat infections, bronchitis, lung infections and gonorrhea. Cefixime is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Cefixime is available in the form of a tablet, and as liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once every day or two times every day for ever 12 hours for a period of two weeks. Do not chew or crush the tablets, instead swallow the tablets entirely along with water. Take Cefixime as prescribed, even if you feel good.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, vaginal infection, diarrhea, wheezing, headache, drowsiness, loss of appetite, increased urination at nights, sore throat, constipation, runny nose, vomiting, difficulty breathing or swallowing, mild skin rash, hives, severe skin rash and itching. Some serious side effects include chest pain, severe blistering, and shortness of breath, tingling under the skin, fast heartbeats, and bloody diarrhea, inflammation of the face, or throat and numbness.
