How to Take it: Catapres is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken 2 or 3 times every day for regular period of time. Take Catapres as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Catapres belongs to a group of drugs known as centrally performing alpha-agonist hypotensive agents. It reduces the heart rate and hence relaxes the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and efficiently.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, tiredness, vomiting, weakness, nausea, headache, and decreased sexual ability. Some serious side effects include rash, inflammation of the face, lips, feet, or lower legs, hives and difficulty breathing or swallowing.
