Commonly Prescribed For: Casodex can be used alone or combined with other medications like leuprolide or goserelin for treating metastatic prostate cancer (tumor that originates in the prostate and that spreads to other parts in the body).

How to Take it: Casodex is available in the form of tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once every day, either with food or without food in the dawn or in the evening. Take Casodex are prescribed around the same time daily.

How it Works: Casodex belongs to a group of drugs known as nonsteroidal antiandrogens. This medication blocks certain effects of androgen for stopping the development and spread of the cancer cells.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include hot flashes or flushing, painful or swollen breasts, pelvic pain, difficulty emptying bladder, muscle weakness, urgent need to urinate, headache, difficult urination, shortness of breath, bloody urination, increased blood pressure, cough, need to urinate at nights, constipation, sweating, nausea, rash, vomiting, feeling of uneasiness, abdominal pain, difficulty sleeping, diarrhea, tingling in the hands, gas, loss of appetite and weight gain. Serious side effects include chest pain, yellowing of the skin, dull side pain, extreme tiredness, flu-like symptoms, unusual bleeding or bruising, loss of appetite and lack of energy.
