Biaxin

Commonly Prescribed For: Biaxin is used for treating several infections caused by bacteria that include pneumonia, infection of the ears, bronchitis, throat and skin infections. It is used in the treatment of MAC, abbreviated to Mycobacterium avium complex. It is a kind of infection that often affects people suffering from HIV.
How to Take it: Biaxin is available in tablet and liquid form to be taken orally via mouth. The regular tablet is to be taken for every twelve hours either with food or without food for up to two weeks. The long acting tablet is taken once every twenty four hours with food. Biaxin liquid should be shaken well prior drinking.
How it Works: Biaxin prevents the growth of certain bacteria by retarding the construction of important proteins that are needed for the bacteria to survive.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, heart burn, unusual taste, abdominal and pain. Serious consequences may lead to skin rashes, fever, itching, difficulty in breathing and swallowing, irregular heartbeat, hoarseness, flu-like symptoms, abnormal bruising, swelling of throat, hands, blisters on the skin and lack of energy.
