Azithromycin
Other Names: Zithromax
Commonly Prescribed For: Azithromycin is used for treating certain infections due to bacteria including pneumonia, lung infection, bronchitis, throat infections, sexually transmitted diseases, skin infections and ear infections.
How to Take it: Azithromycin is available as a tablets and suspension (liquid) to be taken by mouth. It is normally taken once for every 1-5 days either with or without food. It is advisable to take Azithromycin around the same time every day.
How it Works: Azithromycin belongs to a group of drugs called as macrolide antibiotics which stop the growth of certain bacterias in the body.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, mild skin rash, and diarrhea and stomach pain. Some serious side effects include severe skin rash, irregular heartbeat, hives, pounding, itching, and hoarseness, difficulty breathing, yellowing of the skin and swelling of face, hands or lower legs.
