Commonly Prescribed For: Avandia is normally used along with a diet or with other medications for treating type 2 diabetes (a condition where the body doesn’t uses insulin properly, thereby unable to control the quantity of sugar level in the blood).

How to Take it: Avandia is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once or two times every day, either with food or without a meal. Take Avandia as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Avandia belongs to a group of drugs known as thiazolidinediones. It increases the sensitivity of the body to insulin (a substance, which helps the control sugar levels in the blood).

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, irregular menstrual periods, runny nose, shakiness, jerky movements, dizziness, hunger, sweating, pale skin, nervousness or irritability, weakness, abnormal behavior, back pain and cold symptoms. Serious side effects include extreme thirst, decreased consciousness, frequent urination, shortness of breath, seizures, stomach pain and vomiting, blurred vision, extreme hunger and dry mouth.
