Atenolol

Commonly Prescribed For: Atenolol can be used alone or combined with other medications for treating high blood pressure. This medication can also be used for preventing angina and treats heart attacks.
How to Take it: Atenolol is available in the form a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once or two times every day. Take Atenolol as prescribed.
How it Works: Atenolol belongs to a group of drugs known as beta blockers. It impedes the heart rate and hence relaxes the blood vessels, which doesn’t require the heart to pump very hard.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness, diarrhea, lightheadedness, nausea, tiredness and depression. Some serious side effects include shortness of breath, fainting, inflammation of the hands, or lower legs and abnormal weight gain.
