Atarax
Other Names: Hydroxyzine, Anx, Atarax Syrup, Vistaril.
Commonly Prescribed For: Atarax is generally prescribed for relieving itches caused due to allergies and controls vomiting caused due various conditions like motion sickness. This medication can also be used for treating anxiety and certain symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Atarax is available in the form of capsules, suspension liquid, as syrup and as tablets to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken 3 or 4 times every day. Take Atarax as prescribed.
How it Works: Atarax belongs to a group of drugs known as antihistamines. It blocks some natural substance known as histamine, produced by the body during an allergic reaction.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include dry mouth, reddening of the skin, upset stomach, headache, drowsiness, sore throat and chest congestion. Some serious side effects include difficulty breathing, increased anxiety and muscle cramps.
