Ascorbic Acid
Other Names: Cecon Drops, Cevi-Bid, Cenolate, Vicks Vitamin C Drops.
Commonly Prescribed For: Ascorbic acid is generally prescribed for treating and preventing scurvy (a disease that is caused to the loss of vitamin C in your body). It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Ascorbic acid is available in the form of extended-release capsules, liquid drops, lozenges, chewable tablets and as syrups to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once every day. Chew and crush the chewable tablets before swallowing. Take Ascorbic acid as prescribed.
How it Works: It is an antioxidant that works along with beta-carotene and other plant-based nutrients to block certain damages caused due to free radicals.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include burning, diarrhea, stinging, nausea, inflammation of at the injection site and upset stomach. Some serious side effects include rash, painful urination, hives, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, back pain and tightness in the chest.
