Ampicillin

Commonly Prescribed For: Ampicillin is a penicillin-like antibiotic, normally prescribed for treating certain types of infections due to bacteria including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, skin infections and ear infections. Ampicillin is commonly used with other medications. 

How to Take it: Ampicillin is available in the form of a capsule, pediatric drops and as liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken 4 times a day for every six hours. Swallow the capsules entirely along with water. Take Ampicillin as prescribed.

How it Works: It interferes with formation of the cell walls of bacteria and hence kills sensitive bacteria while it is growing. This can lead to the rupture of the cells walls of bacteria, thereby resulting in its death.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, mild skin rash, and diarrhea. Some serious side effects severe skin rash, vaginal infection, itching, wheezing, itching and difficulty breathing or swallowing.
