Amantadine
Other Names: Symmetrel.
Commonly Prescribed For: Amantadine is normally prescribed for treating Parkinson’s disease. This medication can be used for treating respiratory infections due to influenza A virus. Amantadine is combined with another medication known as antipsychotic medicine in order to the symptoms of certain mental disorders.
How to Take it: Amantadine is available in the form of a capsule and as liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once or two times every day. Take Amantadine as prescribed.
How it Works: Amantadine belongs to a class of medications known as anticholinergic drugs. It helps to restore the chemical balance amid dopamine and acetylcholine, 2 nuero-transmitter chemicals present in the brain.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include blurred vision, trouble sleeping, dizziness and fainting. Some serious side effects include depression or anxiety, rash, inflammation of the legs, shortness of breath and problems while urinating.
