Altace
Other Names: Ramipril.
Commonly Prescribed For: Altace can be used alone or combined with other medications for treating high blood pressure. This medication can also be used for decreasing the peril of heart attack in patients and hence improves the endurance of patients with heart failure even after a heart attack.
How to Take it: Altace is available in the form of a capsule to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once or two times every day, either with food or without food. Swallow the capsule entirely. Take Altace as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Altace belongs to a class of medication known as ACE inhibitors. It prevents the conversion of angiotensin (a chemical present in the blood) into potent substances, which increases salt and liquid retention in the body.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, weakness, dizziness, excessive tiredness, upset stomach and cough. Some serious side effects include inflammation of the throat, eyes or lower legs, lightheadedness, hoarseness, sore throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, chills, fainting and yellowing of the skin.
