Commonly Prescribed For: Aldara is generally prescribed for treating certain kinds of actinic keratoses (a condition which leads to scaly growths on skin due to sun exposure). The Aldara cream is used for treating superficial basal cell carcinoma on the arms, legs and feet.

How to Take it: Aldara is available in the form of Aldara cream to be applied on the skin. Apply Aldara cream once every day, three to four days apart to treat actinic keratoses. Leave the applied cream on the skin for nearly 8 hours. Apply Aldara cream once every day for five days in a week for treating superficial basal cell carcinoma.

How it Works: Aldara belongs to a group of drugs known as immune response modifiers. It works by activating the immune system of the body from within. It eradicates the infected cells in the genital warts, caused by human papillomavirus.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include redness, tiredness, itching, back pain, flaking, diarrhea, scaling, headache, thickening of the skin, bumps on the skin and burning sensation. Some serious side effects include skin breakdown, muscle weakness, sores, tiredness, flu-like symptoms and fever.
