Albendazole

Other Names: Albenza.

Commonly Prescribed For: Albendazole is generally prescribed for treating certain infections caused by worms. It can also be used for treating hydatid disease (echinococcosis) and certain infections of the nervous system due to poke tapeworms.

How to Take it: Albendazole is generally taken via mouth, two times along with meals. Take Albendazole as prescribed.

How it Works: Albendazole interferes the absorptive cells of the worm and prevents it from absorbing more glucose. This causes the worm to lose energy and leads to its death.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness, temporary hair loss, nausea, persistent sore throat, headache, very stiff neck, vomiting, mental/mood changes, fever, severe headache, stomach pain, vision problems, seizures and easy bruising or bleeding. Some serious side effects include rash, trouble breathing, itching and severe dizziness.
