Commonly Prescribed For: Acetylsalicylic Acid is generally prescribed for treating symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and related rheumatologic conditions. Nonprescription drug is used for decreasing fever and relieves pain from muscle aches, headaches, toothaches and menstrual periods. It can also be used to put off heart attacks in individuals who have angina. Acetylsalicylic Acid is used to thwart strokes and mini-strokes in certain people.

How to Take it: Prescription Acetylsalicylic Acid is available in the form of an extended-release tablet. Nonprescription Acetylsalicylic Acid is available as a delayed-release tablet, a chewable tablet, as a regular tablet, a gum, an enteric-coated, to take via mouth. Prescription drug is generally taken 2 or more than 2 times every day. The prescription drug is taken for every four to six hours to treat fever. Do not crush or spilt the extended-release tablet, instead swallow the tablet entirely along with water. Chew and crush the chewable tablet.

How it Works: Acetylsalicylic Acid belongs to a class of drugs known as salicylates. It thwarts the production of certain types of natural substances which can lead to fever, pain and blood clots.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, heartburn and stomach pain. Some serious side effects include hives, black or tarry stools, rash, red blood in stools, inflammation of the tongue or throat, vomiting, wheezing or difficulty breathing, bloody vomit, hoarseness, loss of hearing, fast heartbeat, ringing in the ears and fast breathing.
